Why is UBCon 18+?
Firstly it’s important for us to mention that we have no personal control over this rule. UBCon is 18+ due to legal limitations presented to us by the University itself. This IS subject to change for future conventions. UBCon is in no way an “adult entertainment” event and is still family friendly for the most part. This rule simply exists so we can ensure the safety of all those who enter the doors for our events. If you have concerns about this rule do not hesitate to message us about it on the Facebook page. We are sorry about any inconvenience this may bring you.
How much are tickets/how can I purchase tickets?
Please refer to the “tickets” section of our website.
How can I find -insert place-?
When you receive your con book at reg desk there will a map located on the back of the con book.
Do people who run events get incentives?
We provide GMs and DMs certain incentives including things like pens, glasses, t-shirts, and even free weekend admission depending on how many hours of events they run. Keep in mind just because an event is submitted, it might not be accepted, so double check when event schedule goes up before planning on not buying your pass. All incentives (including badges) can be picked up from the help desk weekend of the convention, we prefer DMs to grab their packet at the beginning of the weekend and bigger prizes (t-shirts, glasses, ect) at the end of the weekend OR when they are leaving.
GM incentives are as follows(all rewards include previous rewards):
4 hours – T shirt
6 hours – Free weekend admission
12 + hours – Glassware
How come you announce con guests usually at the last minute?
Since we are a club we work through an office at the university and have to be a communication bridge between this office and the guests, sometimes these communications can take a very long time to relay between all parties involved. We are also not allowed to announce guests until all contracts are finished and signed, which can take months to finalize (among other small things that take time like payments, ect).
Where can I go if I have an issue the weekend of con?
Before the convention you can reach us on our facebook page, however it is a strong possibility we will be too busy to answer anything on the fb page weekend of the convention, so all questions and concerns should be addressed at the help desk located in the SU Lobby across from the reg desk. If you are not in the SU or cannot find help desk, feel free to approach any of our staffers walking around the weekend of the convention. Staffers will be trained to handle all sorts of situations accordingly. If you wish to speak with someone who runs the convention, they will be wearing black badges, if you need to speak with a black badge a staffer can guide you if you cannot find one.
