Please read the following rules over carefully before the weekend of UBCon, attendees are expected to follow these rules regardless of whether or not they have read them.
All UBCon attendees must follow all local, NY state, and federal laws as well as complying with University at Buffalo’s rules and regulations.
Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE. No exceptions.
Prop rules/Restricted Items
All props must be checked at prop check and receive a tag. Anyone without a prop tag will be escorted to the prop check desk and your information will be written down and on record. If we catch you a second time without a prop check tag your badge will be confiscated and you will be escorted out of the convention. There is only one warning for this rule. This is to ensure the protection and safety of all con attendees.
Cigarettes, alcohol, illegal substances or anything similar will NOT be allowed at the event. Electronic Cigarettes are also not permitted. Consequences range from one warning to immediate removal from the con (based on severity of item) and UBPD will be called for illegal substances. Any minor caught with these substances will receive no warning and instead will immediately be reported to UBPD.
No food is permitted to be sold or given away at the convention. Anyone caught selling/handing out food will have all items confiscated and will receive ONE warning. If this rule is broken again your badge will be confiscated and you will be removed from the convention. All areas selling food at the convention are pre-approved vendors and we highly encourage con attendees to obtain food from these areas only for their own safety. UB offers a range of restaurants and UBCon will be selling snacks and maid cafe tickets. Feel free to ask the welcome desk about what nearby restaurants are their favorite and where to find it!
UBCon currently is 18+ only. No minors are permitted into any event areas. UBCon defines a minor as anyone who is 17 years old or younger on the day of the convention. The only exception to this rule are UB students who are 17 years old which the University recognizes as adults. The convention being 18+ does not mean our convention is “adult entertainment” focused, this rule simply exists due to legal complications with the University.
Badges are required for ALL UBCON RELATED EVENTS AND AREAS. You are not allowed to enter panels, events, artist alleys, vendors room, ect without a con badge. Anyone caught without a badge trying to enter these areas will be directed to where they can purchase one.
Badges must be bought for each individual, there is no sharing of badges. Guardians and minors must purchase separate badges. Entry is free for children 4 years old or younger.
No minors are permitted into 18+ events. You must have an 18+ badge to enter these areas. IN ORDER TO GET AN 18+ BADGE YOU MUST HAVE A LEGAL PHOTO ID WHEN PICKING UP YOUR BADGE (with DOB and legal name on it). Anyone caught letting minors into 18+ areas will be removed from the convention immediately with no warning.
We ask all photographers ask permission before capturing photos/videos of anyone. Anyone caught harassing attendees or recording/photographing people against their wishes will be dealt with accordingly and may potentially be removed from the convention. Anyone harassing minors will be removed from the convention immediately with no warning.
If someone is photographing/videoing you despite telling them no please find the closest volunteer to help you. All volunteers are trained to deal with these situations accordingly and ensure the safety of our attendees.
HARASSMENT OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Name calling, slurs, threats, insults, physical altercations, sexual harassment, ect will result in immediate removal from the convention and UBPD will be called. We also do not tolerate discrimination, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ect of any kind. We will take away your badge with no refund if you’re caught harassing any of the other attendees.
If anyone is harassing you please find the closest volunteer or senior staff member. All volunteers are trained in handling these situations accordingly.
